Hello

Once upon a time, there was a man called ‘Father’. He went out every morning to catch the train to work. He came home at 7.00 on the dot, put on his slippers and picked up the evening paper. Mother made his tea, which he ate at the dining table. The children had already eaten, and when Father came home they kissed him ‘goodnight’ and went upstairs for bath and bed.

They were rather scared of Father. Mother always said ‘Be good, or I will tell Father’, which probably didn’t help much.

They wanted to please their Father, but were never quite sure how. There was a special day every year known as ‘Father’s Day’. This meant they had to be on especially good behaviour.

They made him a card, and he said ‘thank you children’ but otherwise the day carried on much as every other day.

Father's Day in 1950

The special day is now known as ‘Dad Day’Dad is not at all scary. In fact, he rather wishes he was more so.

The children have a brilliant time, and the family do loads of stuff together. Dad is simply the best.

He loves craft beer, English wine, and paddleboarding. Everyone loves table tennis and playing the harmonica. Dad says he might take the crew camping this year and then go foraging for food in the woods. Mum wants to take Dad for Fish, Chips and Sips on a Barge. The children want to try the speedboat and Lift 109 in Battersea Power Station.

Dad says ‘Great’. Will they be able to do everything in a day?

Dad says “Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere. Who needs a special day? Let’s make it a week”.

We love Dad.
